Defense Attorney Argues Against Prison Time for Sanberg
Federal prosecutors have called for a lengthy prison term of 212 months, which equates to nearly 18 years, for Sanberg. In contrast, Marc Mukasey, the lead attorney representing Sanberg, contended that such a sentence would be excessively harsh. Mukasey argued for an alternative punishment that would keep Sanberg out of prison altogether.
Mukasey emphasized that Sanberg's actions were devoid of "malice, no ill will, no greed," asserting that his client should not be labeled a criminal but rather viewed as "a good person who did a bad thing." However, Judge Stephen V. Wilson, who has served on the federal bench since 1985, did not align with this perspective.
The case highlights the ongoing debate about the appropriate consequences for individuals in similar situations, balancing accountability with the recognition of personal circumstances.
