Diamondbacks Struggle on the Mound, Fall to Marlins 10-6

On Tuesday night in Miami, the Arizona Diamondbacks faced a disappointing start to their series against the Miami Marlins, conceding a 10-6 loss that highlighted ongoing struggles with their pitching staff. Despite moments of offensive brilliance, the Dbacks were unable to secure a victory as their pitchers repeatedly surrendered leads throughout the game.

Starting pitcher Zac Gallen took the mound for Arizona but failed to impress, lasting just 5.1 innings while allowing four earned runs and only striking out three batters. Despite achieving 14 swings and misses, Gallen struggled to close out hitters with two strikes, frequently missing the mark and allowing Miami’s lineup to capitalize on his mistakes.

On a brighter note, the Dbacks’ offense showed promise, particularly with contributions from Ketel Marte, Corbin Carroll, Gabriel Moreno, and Geraldo Perdomo, who collectively went 7-for-15 with six RBIs. Carroll hit a notable home run in the first inning, sending a shot 400 feet into the upper deck, while Moreno followed suit with a 417-foot blast, providing much-needed support in the batting order. Perdomo’s performance also stood out as he worked three walks and collected two hits, reflecting a return to form.

While the offense appeared to be firing on all cylinders, the bullpen faltered significantly. Taylor Clarke, coming in as a reliever, allowed three runs to score, including the one he inherited. This was followed by an uncharacteristic outing from Garcia, who struggled to find the plate, further complicating the situation as the Marlins extended their lead. Manager Torey Lovullo brought in Ginkel to mitigate the damage, but he too faced challenges, allowing additional runs to cross the plate.

As the Diamondbacks prepare for the next game of the series, they hope for a turnaround with Ryne Nelson slated to pitch. With the remaining Marlins starters appearing vulnerable, Arizona’s pitching staff must regroup and find consistency to avoid further setbacks.
