Dodgers Dominate Angels 9-2 Behind Yamamoto's Strong Performance
On Saturday night at Dodger Stadium, the Los Angeles Dodgers showed no signs of complacency as they faced off against the struggling Los Angeles Angels. With an impressive performance from Yoshinobu Yamamoto and multiple home runs from key players, the Dodgers cruised to a 9-2 victory over their rivals.
Yamamoto was exceptional on the mound, tossing eight innings where he allowed just two hits and one earned run while striking out four batters without issuing any walks. His ERA now stands at an impressive 2.68. In the final inning, reliever Jack Dreyer surrendered a solo home run to Zach Neto, but it did little to dampen the Dodgers' commanding lead.
The Angels' starting pitcher, Jack Kochanowicz, had a night to forget, lasting only one-third of an inning. He was hit hard, giving up six hits and seven runs (six of which were earned) and now holds a 6.05 ERA for the season. Reliever Brent Suter managed to settle things down for a short while, pitching 2.2 innings with two earned runs, but the damage had already been done.
Despite briefly taking a 1-0 lead with an Oswald Peraza triple that scored Wade Meckler, the Angels quickly found themselves in a hole. The Dodgers responded decisively in the first inning, with Andy Pages hitting a two-run homer that brought in Shohei Ohtani, followed by a series of runs that saw them pull ahead 4-1. A notable play came when a fielding error by Zach Neto allowed three Dodgers to score, extending the lead to 7-1.
Ohtani made his presence known with a two-run homer, marking his 11th of the season, capping the Dodgers' scoring at 9-1. The Angels struggled offensively, managing only three hits throughout the game and failing to capitalize with runners in scoring position, going 0-for-1 in such situations.
With this win, the Dodgers are poised to sweep the Freeway Series if they can maintain their momentum in Sunday’s matchup. Given the Angels' lackluster performance on Saturday, the Dodgers are in a strong position heading into the final game.
