Dolphins offensive star earns respect from NFL execs, coaches
The Miami Dolphins are in the middle of their break between their mandatory minicamp and the start of training camp at their Baptist Health Training Complex, which will allow their players and coaches a chance to rest and relax before the grind starts again.
This dead period of the NFL schedule is when we start to hear a lot of comparisons and rankings between players in the league today.
Every year, ESPN puts out their top 10 players at each position, which is voted on by executives, coaches and scouts around the league. On Monday, they started with running backs and Dolphins running back De'Von Achane came in at No. 8.
"An explosive play waiting to happen," defensive coach told ESPN. "Elite receiver out of the backfield."
This is Achane's first time on the list, and it comes after he rushed for 1,350 yards and eight touchdowns on a league-leading 5.7 yards per attempt and caught 67 passes for an additional 488 yards and four scores. He also made the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career.
Bijan Robinson, Jahmyr Gibbs, Saquon Barkley, Christian McCaffrey, Jonathan Taylor, Derrick Henry and James Cook all landed above Achane while Kenneth Walker III and Breece Hall rounded out the top 10.
Interestingly, one unnamed voter put Achane as the third-best running back in the league, which is high praise.
