Duke receives commitment from 5-star center Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje

Duke had one roster spot open for the 2026-27 season, and Jon Scheyer just made a major splash in filling it.

Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje, a 7-foot center from Spain currently playing for FC Barcelona, has committed to the Blue Devils and will reclassify to the 2026 recruiting class, making him eligible to play next season.

Still young (he will not turn 17 until late May), Boumtje Boumtje is a 5-star recruit who was highly sought after, including by rival North Carolina, which recently received a commitment from one of his FC Barcelona teammates, Sayon Keita. 

With the addition of the young Spaniard, Duke will be able to put out a frontcourt of 6-foot-8 Dame Sarr, 6-foot-11 Patrick Ngongba, 6-foot-11 and 5-star recruit Cameron Williams, incoming 4-star recruit Maxime Meyer, who stands 7-foot-1, and Boumtje Boumtje.
