Duke Recruiting: Lewis Uvwo Is going to be special.

Lewis Uvwo plays for the Nightrydas Elite, but he himself is a nightmare.

A native of Nigeria Uvwo is listed at around 6-10 or 6-11, but he has a wingspan of 7-7. Until quite recently, he was listed as a 4-star, but he’s really emerged as a star this summer, with a dominant run at Peach Jam to cap it off.

When you watch some of the videos below, he is clearly beginning to understand what he is capable of. His shot blocking is absolutely game-changing, and his exuberance suggests he’s beginning to understand that.

He also has another quality that we saw in young versions of Patrick Ewing and Shaquille O’Neal, but not many others: he can block a shot and finish at the other end. It’s a shocking thing to see, and demoralizing for opponents.

We don’t see much of his offense here, other than dunks, but you don’t have to watch for long to get it: he has the potential to be an extraordinary defensive player. Coaches will help him to master the rest of his game.

The Nightrydas are based out of Miami, but Uvwo plays for Prolific Prep, which is now in Fort Lauderdale. We don’t know if Miami is involved, but Jai Lucas is no fool, and he’s certainly trying to make an impression with a great player who could transform his program just a half-hour up I-95.
