Eric Bieniemy's wife shot, son arrested at family home. What we know

Elijah Bieniemy, son of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, was arrested and faces three felony charges in relation to the alleged shooting of his mother.

Mia Bieniemy, Eric's wife, was shot in their family home on Sunday, July 26. Loudoun County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a report of a shooting in Ashburn, Virginia, where an adult female was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

She was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment for serious injuries. Chiefs coach Andy Reid said on Monday, July 27, Mia Bieniemy was in stable condition following the incident.

Eric Bieniemy's wife, Mia, shot in family home

At approximately 7:32 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, Loudoun County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a report of a shooting in Ashburn, Virginia, where the Washington Commanders have their practice facility.

They located one adult female suffering from multiple gunshot wounds who was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The victim was later identified as Mia Bieniemy, the wife of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy. Mia Bieniem made the 911 call after being shot, according to Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman.

Elijah Bieniemy arrested

Eric Bieniemy's son, Elijah Zion Bieniemy, was arrested on charges of malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, discharge of a firearm inside of a dwelling in the aftermath of the shooting.

The 27-year-old was transported to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center and held without bond.

Online court records say that Elijah Bieniemy was arraigned Monday morning and will have a preliminary hearing on Aug. 31.

Andy Reid gives update on Mia Bieniemy's condition

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told reporters that Mia Bieniemy was in stable condition following the shooting.

Speaking after training camp practice on Monday, July 27, Reid offered his support as the family works though the fallout.

"Our hearts to go out to Eric Bieniemy and his family. Thoughts and prayers are with them," Reid said. "... Eric will work through it. He's got a great support group here and is with his family as needed. We'll let time take care of it from there."

Bieniemy to step away from Chiefs in the interim

The Chiefs confirmed to USA TODAY Sports that Bieniemy is currently away from the team.

"The club is aware of the incident involving Eric Bieniemy’s family," the team said in a statement. "Out of respect for their privacy, we won’t have a comment at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them."

Reid said on July 27 that pass game coordinator Joe Bleymaier would take over offensive coordinator duties during Bieniemy's absence.

Reid added there was no timetable for Bieniemy's return.
