Falcons Acquire Wanya Morris from Chiefs in Draft Pick Trade

The Atlanta Falcons have reportedly secured offensive tackle Wanya Morris from the Kansas City Chiefs, as confirmed by multiple sources. In the transaction, the Falcons will send a sixth-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft to Kansas City while receiving a seventh-round draft choice in return.

At 25 years old, Morris played in 12 games for the Chiefs last season, starting one before suffering a significant knee injury during the first play of a Week 14 game against the Houston Texans. This injury sidelined him for the remainder of the season. Over his three-year tenure with Kansas City, he appeared in 43 games, starting 11 in the 2024-25 season, where he even recorded a touchdown reception in a victory against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Selected in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft (No. 93 overall) out of Oklahoma, Morris fell behind several competitors on the Chiefs' depth chart, including veteran Jaylon Moore and second-year players Esa Pole and Chukwuebuka Godrick, along with undrafted rookie Kahlil Benson from Indiana.

In Atlanta, Morris is anticipated to serve as a swing tackle, a role he previously held with the Chiefs. With Jake Matthews established at left tackle and the addition of Morris’ former teammate Jawaan Taylor as the starting right tackle, the Falcons are looking to bolster their offensive line. This is particularly crucial given the need to support quarterbacks Tua Tagovailoa and Michael Penix Jr. Additionally, the Falcons have been seeking offensive line reinforcements after tackle Storm Norton was placed on the physically unable to perform list.

Known for his proficiency in run-blocking, Morris could play a key part in Atlanta's offense, which features talented running backs Bijan Robinson and Brian Robinson Jr.
