Falcons Bolster Offensive Line with Trade for Wanya Morris

The Atlanta Falcons have made a strategic move to enhance their offensive line by acquiring Wanya Morris from the Kansas City Chiefs, as reported by ESPN. In this deal, the Falcons sent a sixth-round draft pick in 2027 to Kansas City, receiving Morris along with a seventh-round selection in the same year.

This transaction comes as a response to the injury of swing tackle Storm Norton, who has been placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list for the season. With Norton sidelined, Morris is expected to step in as the primary backup to right tackle Jawaan Taylor, adding crucial depth to the Falcons' roster.

ESPN's analyst Seth Walder assigned a "B+" grade to Atlanta for this trade, while the Chiefs received a grade of B-. In his analysis, Walder noted that Morris, a third-round pick in 2023, has played 1,085 snaps and started 16 games in his three seasons with Kansas City, though he faced a significant setback with a season-ending knee injury just moments into a game in 2025.

Despite his limited playing time, Morris boasts an impressive 89.3% pass block win rate and a 73.5% run block win rate, which are slightly below the average for starting tackles. Walder pointed out that the uncertainty surrounding Taylor's participation in offseason activities may have prompted Falcons' general manager Ian Cunningham to pursue this trade.

Morris is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and his acquisition represents a cost-effective solution for Atlanta, providing them with a player who has starting experience. This move is seen as a favorable development for the Falcons as they prepare for the upcoming season.
