Florida A&M baseball and Alabama State are battling it out for the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament trophy.

The foes are meeting in the championship game at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama, a day after their SWAC semifinal playoff wins.

Three-seed FAMU (30-22) beat Southern 5-1 to advance. The No. 4 Alabama State Hornets (33-21) defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff 8-5.

FAMU is pursuing its second SWAC championship to add to its 2023 title. If the Rattlers can do it, it would give Jamey Shouppe a rare distinction as a head coach to win multiple conference titles in two different conferences.

FAMU won the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in 2015 and 2019 under the longtime head coach.

Bama State is a two-time SWAC champion, in 2016 and 2022.

Who will get the trophy and the championship ring?

FAMU must lean on All-SWAC First Team designated hitter Jackson McKenzie and second-team pitching ace Caleb Granger to increase its chances. Meanwhile, the Hornets will look to SWAC Newcomer of the Year, all-around performer, and team top hitter Miguel Oropeza, and Relief Pitcher of the Year Camden Matthews if he’s needed to finish things off.
