Fever's Sophie Cunningham Lauds Lynx Rookie Olivia Miles as a Game-Changer
The Minnesota Lynx made a strategic choice when they picked Olivia Miles as the second overall selection in the 2026 WNBA Draft. At just 23 years old, Miles has quickly established herself as a formidable presence in the league and is a strong contender for the Rookie of the Year title.
Her remarkable performance this season has not gone unnoticed, especially by players like Sophie Cunningham of the Indiana Fever. Miles was recognized as the Rookie of the Month for May, during which she averaged 15.4 points and 5.9 assists per game, leading all rookies in scoring and efficiency metrics. In June, she set a new rookie record by hitting eight three-pointers in a game against the Golden State Valkyries, contributing to the Lynx's 87-84 victory.
During a recent episode of her "Show Me Something" podcast, Cunningham shared her admiration for Miles, stating, "I know that they said Olivia Miles was like up for rookie. She’s going to get rookie of the year. I don’t know if anyone has watched her play... she is a beast. An actual beast. She is. I’m not kidding.” Cunningham highlighted Miles’ unique playing style and physicality as key factors contributing to her success.
“She just has like the wiggle of a guy,” Cunningham remarked, praising Miles' dribbling skills, passing ability, and overall court vision. “I like her. And I know people think it’s weird when like you compliment other people in our league because you have to play against them. But I also like, give this girl her flowers. Like she is a freaking beast.”
Before joining the WNBA, Miles had an outstanding collegiate career at Notre Dame, where she became the first freshman in NCAA Tournament history to achieve a triple-double and holds the university record for the most career triple-doubles. This successful background has seamlessly transitioned into her professional career, as evidenced by her impressive average of 18.1 points, 5.9 assists, and 5.0 rebounds over 14 games.
Fans will have another chance to see Miles in action when the Lynx take on the Los Angeles Sparks at Crypto.com Arena this Wednesday, further proving or reinforcing Cunningham's high praise.
