Former MLB All-Star Remains Optimistic About Pirates Despite Recent Struggles
The Pittsburgh Pirates faced some challenges on their recent road trip, finishing with a 2-4 record against the Houston Astros and Atlanta Braves. Despite being swept by the Braves over the weekend, the team holds a respectable 34-32 standing as they head into a homestand, boasting a 48.2 percent chance of making the playoffs, according to FanGraphs.
Former MLB All-Star catcher Alex Avila continues to express confidence in the Pirates' postseason potential. "I'm high on the Pirates, I think they can make the playoffs," he stated during a segment on MLB Network. He emphasized the team's offensive capabilities and the strength of their starting rotation as key elements for success. "When you look at their rotation, there's no one that's gonna wanna face them in a playoff series."
This season, the Pirates have showcased one of the most potent offenses in baseball, currently ranking sixth in scoring with an average of 5.05 runs per game. Additionally, the return of Jared Jones from injury has bolstered their starting rotation. While the team still seeks improvements in their bullpen and navigates a competitive division, there remains a strong belief that they can secure a postseason berth for the first time since 2015.
