Franklin Arias Ascends to MLB's Top-3 Prospect Rankings

Franklin Arias, a rising star in the Boston Red Sox organization, is rapidly gaining recognition among baseball fans, even those who casually follow the team. The 20-year-old shortstop began his professional journey in 2025 with a stint in Double-A but spent most of last season playing for the High-A Greenville Drive. While his performance was solid, with a batting average of .265 and 49 RBIs, it is this season where he has truly made his mark.

Currently playing for the Portland Sea Dogs, Arias has showcased his impressive skills over 42 games this season. He boasts a remarkable batting average of .327 and a staggering OPS of 1.027. With 13 home runs under his belt, including a massive 430-foot shot on Tuesday night, he has driven in 33 runs and accumulated 102 total bases from 53 hits. Notably, five of those home runs have come in just the last nine games, surpassing his previous career high of nine homers for an entire season.

As a result of his outstanding performance, Arias has climbed to the No. 3 position in The Athletic's Keith Law's MLB top 50 prospects list. Law's evaluation places him higher than any other analyst, although Arias has emerged as a consensus top-10 prospect across the board, impressing observers with his dominance in Double-A baseball.

The Red Sox are cautious about accelerating Arias's development, mindful of his age and the importance of proper progression. However, given his current trajectory, it seems unlikely that he will remain in Portland much longer.
