Freddie Freeman Achieves 2,500 Career Hits Milestone

Freddie Freeman, the first baseman for the Los Angeles Dodgers, celebrated a significant achievement on Tuesday by recording the 2,500th hit of his Major League Baseball career during a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Freeman entered the matchup needing just two hits to reach this milestone and made progress with a double in the top of the sixth inning. He secured his landmark hit in the seventh, when he lined a single to center field, contributing to the Dodgers’ 12th run of the game.

Since joining the Dodgers before the 2022 season, Freeman has amassed 796 hits, placing him second in the MLB behind Luis Arraez in that timeframe. Bobby Witt Jr. follows closely behind with 795 hits. Currently, Freeman's 2,500 career hits lead all active players, as do his 1,412 runs, 562 doubles, and 1,357 RBIs. Notably, he topped the league in hits in 2022 with a total of 199 and led the National League in 2018 with 191. His most prolific season came in 2023, when he notched an impressive 211 hits.

Freeman's path to this achievement seemed inevitable given his consistent performance this season. As of Monday, he held a .280 batting average alongside an .838 OPS, with 10 home runs—marking the 16th straight season he has hit double digits in home runs—and 35 RBIs. His durability has been remarkable since his MLB debut in 2010, as he has played more than 100 games in every season since 2011, save for the shortened 2020 season and the current year, which is still in progress.

Throughout his 12 years with the Atlanta Braves, Freeman accumulated 1,704 hits with a batting average of .295. As he looks ahead, the next milestone on his radar is 3,000 career hits, though he acknowledges that reaching it may not be straightforward. Freeman has expressed uncertainty about his future in the game, suggesting that personal considerations, such as family time, may influence his decision to continue playing. “I’ve always thought Father Time takes you down,” he remarked. “But I don’t know if it’s Father Time. I think it’s because you miss things with your family and your kids.”
