Freshman Golfer Chase Kyes Qualifies for U.S. Open, Unaware of Its Imminence
Chase Kyes, who recently wrapped up his freshman year at the University of Tennessee, has made headlines after qualifying for the U.S. Open. The young golfer played a crucial role in helping the Volunteers secure a tie for seventh place at the NCAA Championship just last week.
On Monday, Kyes was on the course at Hawks Ridge Golf Club in Ball Ground, Georgia, facing the challenge of 36 holes for U.S. Open qualifying. Despite the odds stacked against him due to a weather delay that pushed the final holes into twilight, Kyes managed to birdie the last hole, finishing with an impressive total of 11-under par, securing one of five qualifying spots from the Georgia site. His rounds of 67 and 66 propelled him to this achievement.
Next week, Kyes will make his debut at Shinnecock Hills for his first major championship. However, in a recent interview with Golf Channel, he revealed a surprising fact: he was completely unaware that the U.S. Open was just around the corner. “I didn’t know it was next week,” he stated, appearing genuinely surprised. “I don’t even know man.”
Now that he’s been informed, Kyes will need to quickly sort out travel and accommodations for what promises to be a significant milestone in his golfing career.
