Iowa women's basketball fans react to double-commitment day
After Iowa women's basketball made some serious noise with the commitment of high-scoring Division III point guard Bria Medina and Swedish forward Ella Strömdahl on May 13, Hawkeyes fans flooded social media with their reactions to the program's two newest additions.
As for Medina, the 5-foot-6 point guard from Tucson, Arizona, averaged 23.6 points on 46.9% shooting, 35.6% from 3-point range (21-for-59) on low volume, and 86.9% from the free-throw line while earning nearly nine attempts per game. She also averaged 5.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.7 steals per game for the Prairie Fire. Even more impressive, she reached 30-plus points five times, including registering a career-high 40 points on Jan. 27.
Strömdahl, a 6-foot forward hailing from Uppsala, Sweden, will turn 19 in August and averaged 6.5 points and 2.9 rebounds per game for the RIG Lulea Swedish academy team last season. Strömdahl has also played on Sweden’s under-16 and under-18 national teams. She will have four years of eligibility entering next season and join forward McKenna Woliczko as the second member of the Hawkeyes' incoming freshman class.
RECRUITING: @IowaWBB lands commitment from former Knox College guard Bria Medina.
The second-leading scorer in D-III last season averaged 23.6 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 4 apg. Shot 87% FT and 36% 3pt FG.

Confirmation ... it's Ella Stromdahl, from Sweden.
A late freshman commit, not a transfer.

This looks like Iowa's roster of 11:
Seniors: G Amari Whiting, G Bria Medina.
Juniors: C Ava Heiden, G Chit-Chat Wright, G Taylor Stremlow, G Dani Carnegie.
Sophomores: F Journey Houston, C Layla Hays, G Jocelyn Faison.
Freshmen: F McKenna Woliczko, F Ella Stromdahl.— Jeff Linder (@jtlinder) May 13, 2026
I think there's a very good chance that Jan Jensen and staff are done at 11 players for next season unless something fell into their lap.
That would leave room for another addition or two in the '27 recruiting class without really loading the roster.— Kyle Huesmann (@HuesmannKyle) May 13, 2026
Really intriguing when digging as far as I can into the background of Swedish forward Ella Strömdahl.
She played with RIG Lulea, an academy team, that played in Basketligan Dam, the Swedish top-tier league.

We will see. Hard to judge without much information on her.
We've seen some good international players in the Big Ten the last few years. https://t.co/0xeKEH5jk3— Kyle Huesmann (@HuesmannKyle) May 13, 2026
