Ithaca and Horseheads Boys Lacrosse Teams Claim Section 4 Championships

The boys' lacrosse finals for Section 4 Class A and B took place at Horseheads High School on Saturday, May 30, showcasing a thrilling comeback by Ithaca and a commanding performance from Horseheads. Ithaca secured an 8-7 win in the Class A final, marking a significant achievement as they thwarted Corning's pursuit of a seventh straight title. This victory also brought Ithaca its first championship since 2018.

Horseheads, on the other hand, celebrated a decisive 13-3 victory in the Class B final, capturing their first sectional championship in a decade. The game saw nine players contribute to the scoreboard for the top-seeded Horseheads, who established an impressive lead of 6-0 by halftime and extended it to 12-0 by the end of the third quarter.

Head coach Jason Neubauer expressed his pride, stating, "I could not be prouder of these boys and their commitment to daily improvement," while also acknowledging the effort of Binghamton throughout the season. Notable performances included Brogan Sullivan, who achieved his 100th career assist and scored a goal, while Seamus Lynch led the scorers with three goals and one assist. Boe Briggs excelled at faceoffs, winning all 17 he took and collecting 13 ground balls, echoing his brother's success during their last sectional title in 2016.

In net, Ben Potter recorded seven saves for Horseheads, with Graham Thompson adding two more stops. Binghamton's scoring came from Ty Miller, Trisetan Durham, and Lyshawn Forbes.

Next up, Horseheads (11-6) will take on a Section 2 opponent in a New York State Public High School Athletic Association sub-regional match at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, at Ithaca High School.

Meanwhile, the Class A final saw Ithaca rally back with three goals in the fourth quarter, culminating in Isaac Lee-Byrnes netting the game-winner with just 12 seconds left. Lee-Byrnes and Reginald Browne each scored three goals for the Little Red, while Corning's Joe Fucito and Parker Chapel contributed two goals apiece. Corning finished the season with a 13-4 record, having faced Ithaca three times this year.

Ithaca (15-3) will also host a sub-regional match against the Section 3 champion on Wednesday, June 3, at 5 p.m.
