Joey Votto mentions painful Reds memory on Sunday Night Baseball

It was tough for Cincinnati Reds fans when Joey Votto appeared July 22 on MLB Network's "MLB Now" with Brian Kenny, Bob Costas and Jake Peavy and shared a sobering reminder with Reds fans that he wasn't able to experience anything like the Boston Red Sox recently encountered with their winning streak and turnaround.

Another painful memory for Reds fans reared its ugly head before the New York Yankees-Philadelphia Phillies game as Votto appeared July 26 with Costas on NBC's "Sunday Night Baseball."

"As a guy who played for the Cincinnati Reds for 17 seasons, and during that time they were a contender occasionally but not often, do you feel as if on a national basis as you make your debut with us here at NBC, that there are some people who don't appreciate your career?" Costas asked Votto.

"Any Philly fan knows the Cincinnati Reds because we were no-hit on this field vs. Roy Halladay in 2010," Votto responded. "So they may know me, but not for the right reasons."

Halladay no-hit the Reds in his first-ever postseason appearance, in the Phillies' 4-0 win in Game 1 of the National League Division Series.

When Votto was asked in a video shared via Twitter/X by MLB Network last week whether there's a hitter in today's game who reminds him of himself, Votto's answer was Boston Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony.
