REPORT: Browns Exploring Edge Rusher Additions Ahead of Camp

Training camp may be just days away for the Cleveland Browns, but the roster tweaking never stops for Executive Vice President of Football Operations Andrew Berry. 

Berry already pulled off a blockbuster trade earlier this summer to send Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams for a handful of picks and on-the-rise edge rusher Jared Verse. He may be looking to bolster the position even more with training camp ramping up. 

According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, the Browns are apparently in the market for another edge rusher. 

"The Browns are still in the market for a veteran defensive end to add to the rotation and make up for the loss of former Bills edge rusher A.J. Epenesa, who failed his physical," wrote Cabot on Sunday. 

She added that Cleveland would prefer to find this mystery edge rusher before training camp commences on Wednesday, but that it may take some time to actually identify someone and sign them.

As Cabot noted, at one point this offseason the Browns were set to sign Buffalo Bills free agent Epenesa to a contract, but balked after being uncomfortable with something that popped up during his physical. 

Several months later, the former second-round pick wound up signing a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles instead. 

As things stand right now, the Browns boast a pretty strong starting front four along the defensive line, headlined by the newly acquired Verse. The unit also includes veteran DT Maliek Collins, 2025, No. 5 overall pick Mason Graham and 2022 third-round pick Alex Wright. 

Behind those four, though, the Browns would benefit from some additional depth for rotational purposes. Cleveland will sorely miss Garrett, for obvious reasons, but building a deeper defensive line that can collectively attempt to make up for what's lost in Garrett's absence could certainly help matters. 

Of course, Verse will carry the heaviest burden to replicate as much as he can, Garrett's impact, granted nobody should expect him to be the two-time Defensive Player of the Year. 

He won't have to go it alone, though, and another addition to the room will only help ease some of the pressure on him, hence why adding another veteran is of the utmost importance to Berry and company. It sounds like it's just a matter of when, rather than if, Cleveland will be adding another edge rusher to their roster.
