In a development that echoes their previous pursuit of a Premier League goalkeeper, Juventus appears to be on the verge of reaching a personal agreement with Emi Martinez. However, it remains uncertain how soon the Italian club will finalize their new starting goalkeeper ahead of the upcoming 2026-27 season.
Numerous Italian media outlets reported on Tuesday that Juventus is either nearing a contract for the 33-year-old Argentine or has already settled on personal terms, as noted by Sky Italia's Gianluca Di Marzio. Martinez, who recently celebrated winning the Europa League with Aston Villa, is reportedly a top target for the Bianconeri. Additionally, Tuttosport confirmed that a contract agreement has been established, while La Gazzetta dello Sport indicated that Aston Villa is seeking around €15 million for their star goalkeeper.
According to Italian transfer expert Nico Schira, Juventus has proposed a three-year deal for Martinez, offering a net salary of €5.5 million per season. This would be a decrease from his current earnings of approximately €7 million at Aston Villa, where he is under contract until 2029. Di Marzio also mentioned that Martinez views Juventus as an ideal destination to cap off his impressive career.
With Liverpool's Alisson Becker remaining off the market, Martinez has emerged as Juventus' prime candidate to fulfill manager Luciano Spalletti's request for a new starting goalkeeper. This comes after a challenging season for Michele Di Gregorio and Mattia Perin in 2025-26. While Martinez's potential exit from Aston Villa has been speculated for over a year, this summer may finally present the opportunity for a transfer as the club prepares for a new chapter in goal.
Having joined Aston Villa in 2020, Martinez has made over 200 appearances for the club. However, the journey to finalize his transfer is still ongoing, as Juventus has yet to make a formal offer. Di Marzio also pointed out that it remains to be seen whether Aston Villa will allow Martinez to leave on a free transfer or if a transfer fee will be negotiated.
