In a post-game press conference on June 13, the New York Knicks star, affectionately known as KAT, reflected on the significant role Woods has played in his life since the passing of his mother in April 2020.

With a radiant smile, the 28-year-old athlete credited Woods for providing stability during a tumultuous time in his life. “Her presence is always felt in my life,” Towns remarked, honoring his late mother, Jacqueline Cruz-Towns, who succumbed to complications from COVID-19. He shared that the emotional upheaval following his mother's death was challenging, yet Woods was there for him: “You always pray you’re going to pick the right woman for you, and I know I did in my fiancée,” he stated.

Towns elaborated on their deep connection, emphasizing that it transcends mere physical attraction. He described their relationship as rooted in years of genuine friendship. “In moments of true pressure, I always feel this calming come to me, and it’s always her,” he explained, noting that he felt his mother’s love surrounding him, especially during this momentous occasion. “It really means a lot that, in a way—without sounding weird—Jackie Jr. was able to be here celebrating this moment with me,” he added.

Woods, for her part, has previously shared insights about their bond, highlighting that it is built on trust and friendship. The couple, who became engaged in December 2025, received an outpouring of support from celebrities following the announcement.

Meanwhile, Towns wasn't the only one feeling emotional after the game; teammate Jalen Brunson also expressed his feelings, particularly after sharing the moment with his father, Knicks assistant coach Rick Brunson.
