Kenrich Williams Hopes to Conclude Career with OKC Thunder
Kenrich Williams has expressed a strong desire to finish his basketball career with the Oklahoma City Thunder, a team he has seen evolve from a rebuilding phase to a championship contender. As the third-longest-serving player on the roster, Williams has witnessed the franchise's transformation since he joined in 2020, following a trade involving Steven Adams. The Thunder clinched their first NBA title in 2025, and now Williams is eager to remain part of this journey.
At 31 years old, Williams recently addressed his uncertain future during an exit interview, highlighting that he has a $7.2 million team option for the 2026-27 season. While it's unclear if the Thunder will exercise this option, Williams made it clear that his preference is to stay with the team. “It’s no secret that I want to be here until I’m done playing,” he stated, although he noted that he was still processing the team's recent loss.
Williams initially came to OKC with modest expectations, with some doubting his ability to secure a spot on the team. However, over six seasons, he has established himself as a reliable contributor, averaging 6.7 points and 3.8 rebounds. Despite facing challenges with playing time due to an influx of young talent, he has maintained a positive presence in the locker room and continues to deliver valuable minutes during both the regular season and playoffs.
Reflecting on his time with the Thunder, Williams emphasized the positive work environment and camaraderie among teammates. “You don’t want to go into a toxic job. This is a job where I can come in and be myself,” he remarked, appreciating the supportive atmosphere and the team's success on the court.
As Williams' future remains in limbo, he is one of several players whose status will be clarified this offseason. If he is comfortable taking on a veteran role with limited playing time, the Thunder may accommodate his wish with a minimum contract. Regardless of the outcome, Williams' journey with the Thunder has been a notable success, highlighting his pivotal role in the franchise's rise from rebuilding to contention.
