Key Broncos Players Face Uncertain Futures as OTAs Begin
The Denver Broncos kicked off their Organized Team Activities (OTAs) on Tuesday, marking the start of a crucial evaluation period for the team. Over the next three days, and again from June 9-11, players will have the opportunity to showcase their skills ahead of the upcoming training camp in late July. With one of the strongest rosters in the league, many players find themselves vying for limited spots on the 53-man roster.
Among those on the roster bubble are several notable names who must prove their worth during these sessions. Wide receiver Lil'Jordan Humphrey, a favorite of head coach Sean Payton, faces tough competition with five receivers ahead of him on the depth chart. While he has shown strength as a blocker, the decision to keep either five or six wideouts could determine his fate.
Another player to watch is tight end Nate Adkins, who has struggled with injuries but remains a solid blocking option. However, the emergence of rookie Caleb Lohner complicates his situation. With Evan Engram and Adam Trautman likely securing spots, Adkins will need to impress to retain his place on the team.
Linebacker Drew Sanders is under pressure as he transitions back to an outside position after injuries hindered his progress. The former third-round pick is running out of chances to make an impact in Denver. Meanwhile, offensive lineman Matt Peart must compete against younger talents like Tyler Miller and Gavin Ortega to maintain his roster spot.
Lastly, running back Jaleel McLaughlin faces a steep climb after the Broncos bolstered their backfield with the re-signing of J.K. Dobbins and the drafting of Jonah Coleman. McLaughlin's lack of contributions on special teams could jeopardize his standing as he aims to make a strong impression this summer.
