The 2026 offseason is coming to a close with the San Francisco 49ers set to kick off training camp and their preseason slate before July ends.

Now that the offseason is winding down we can hone in on a handful of key dates coming up on the 49ers' calendar. Between training camp practices, joint practices and preseason games, there'll be plenty to keep track of in the lead up to the regular season opener on Sept. 10 in Melbourne, Australia.

Here are the key dates to know throughout the preseason:

July 18: 49ers rookies report to camp

The first-year players will get an additional week to begin preparations for their first NFL seasons. While the rookies will be in the building, no training camp will take place until the veterans report.

July 25: 49ers veterans report to camp

This is when things will start to get real. The non-rookie portion of the 90-man roster will be in the team facility and beginning their own preparations for the start of camp. One interesting subplot to watch here is whether wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk reports to force action from the 49ers. Aiyuk would first need to file for reinstatement with the NFL, although he's stated publicly he isn't willing to do so as a member of the 49ers. If he does, and he then reports to the facility, the team would likely release him that day.

July 26: 49ers first training camp practice

Now things get real. Some of the position battles that began playing out in OTAs will really begin taking shape. The first few practices won't tell us much, but after the team gets through the mandatory non-padded period we'll start to really learn where things stand with the 49ers roster.

Here's the full list of training camp practices that are open to the public:

  • Sunday, July 26
  • Monday, July 27
  • Friday, July 31
  • Monday, August 3
  • Thursday, August 6
  • Saturday, August 8
  • Monday, August 10
  • Tuesday, August 11
  • Saturday, August 15
  • Sunday, August 16

August 11: 49ers joint practice with Tennessee Titans

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan typically prizes joint practices more than he does preseason games, which makes the joint sessions especially important for the coaching staff in their player evaluation. The controlled environment helps the coaches see players in specific situations, but they'll be doing so competitively against a live opponent after hitting their own teammates for a couple of weeks. These sessions generally separate players in position battles and the hunt for roster spots.

August 13: 49ers preseason schedule begins

San Francisco's lone home game in the preseason will be their opener against the Titans just two days after their joint practice in Santa Clara. The 49ers kick off against the Titans and head coach Robert Saleh at 6:00pm Pacific Time. It will be their last home game until Sept. 20 when they host the Miami Dolphins in Week 2 of the regular season.

Here's the 49ers' full preseason schedule

  • Thursday, Aug. 13, 6:00pm | 49ers vs. Tennessee Titans
  • Thursday, Aug. 20, 7:00pm | 49ers at Los Angeles Chargers
  • Thursday, Aug. 27, 5:00pm | 49ers at Las Vegas Raiders

August 18: 49ers joint practice with Los Angeles Chargers

This joint practice against a Jim Harbaugh team down in Southern California may be the ultimate deciding factor for the 49ers coaches in which players do or don't make the team.

August 30: Final cutdown day

The 49ers are going to have a couple of days separating their preseason finale from final cutdown day. We'll probably see them make a handful of moves before final cuts are due, but the majority of their moves will more than likely come right up against the 3:00pm Pacific Time deadline.
