Knicks to Host Ticketed Watch Party for Game 4 at Madison Square Garden
A ticketed watch party for Game 4 of the NBA Finals is set to occur at Madison Square Garden, as announced by Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani. In a tweet, he encouraged New Yorkers to partake in the celebration responsibly, emphasizing the significance of this moment for the city. "As we prepare to watch together, let me be clear: this is a historic, joyful moment for our city. We will not allow it to be disrupted by violence," he stated, concluding with a hopeful "Knicks in 5."
Following a disappointing loss on Monday, Knicks supporters flooded Bryant Park, leading to altercations that resulted in 21 arrests. To prevent similar incidents during the watch party, the NYPD will implement a security plan akin to that of Game 3, permitting 1,000 ticketed fans to attend, all of whom will undergo screening before entry.
In a response to the announced restrictions, Madison Square Garden Sports Corp. criticized the authorities, labeling Mamdani and Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch as "New York City's biggest party poopers." They claimed the limitations were not genuinely about safety but rather a pretext to control how fans celebrate. Knicks owner James Dolan has long been associated with former President Trump, further complicating the narrative.
Security measures for the event will include a designated perimeter around Madison Square Garden, extending from West 29th to West 35th Streets. Starting at 4 PM, Seventh Avenue will be closed to traffic, while Eighth Avenue may also face restrictions if necessary. Attendees must enter through specific access points on Sixth Avenue, with strict re-entry rules once they leave the designated area.
For those planning to enjoy the watch party, it's essential to arrive early for security screening, which will begin at 4:30 PM. Those entering the secure area will be subject to checks, and items like bags and alcohol will not be permitted. As fans exit Madison Square Garden post-game, they will have access to public transportation at Penn Station, with specific guidelines for foot and vehicle traffic.
