Kyler Murray is available.

And for the first time since the season ended, the Pittsburgh Steelers have a clear and obvious better QB option for 2026 than Aaron Rodgers.

Yes, Rodgers is a future Hall of Famer, and yes, Murray hasn't had a winning record in a season since 2021.

But these guys aren't created equal at all.

Rodgers is aging and could even retire. Murray is still in his athletic prime and is a dual threat that the Steelers haven't had in a really long time.

With the Cardinals, Murray was the 2019 Rookie of the Year and a two-time Pro Bowler.

He threw for more than 20,000 yards and ran for more than 3,000. He also threw 121 TDs and ran for 32 scores.

The 2019 No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick has seen the shine wear off in the last couple seasons. He also battled injuries in 2025.

The thing is, the Steelers have no idea of what their QB future is. Even if they bring Rodgers aboard, he's just a one-year stopgap, for real this time.

Malik Willis is a free agent and desired by various teams, but he has more risk than Murray, just by virtue of having started a lot fewer NFL games.

The Steelers could actually get not just a short-term QB starter but also a long-term solution at the position if a Murray signing works out.

Because of what the Cardinals are already paying Murray in 2026, he also can potentially come at a cheaper cost.

There will be more teams interested, but the Steelers need to start talking to Murray's agent. This could work out better than they could've planned.
