Louisiana Safety Kaston Lewis Chooses Texas Tech Football
The Texas Tech football program bolstered its recruiting class on Saturday, June 13, with the announcement from Kaston Lewis, an exceptional safety from Iowa, Louisiana. Lewis was a standout player on a championship-winning high school team that completed an undefeated season, finishing 14-0 and securing the Division II non-select state title.
Lewis shared his commitment to the Red Raiders through social media, marking this as his decision to join Texas Tech. He is recognized as the 231st best recruit in the nation for the class of 2027 and holds the 9th spot among Louisiana recruits according to the 247Sports composite rankings, which aggregate various recruiting services.
Having previously visited Houston and West Virginia, Lewis is currently touring Texas Tech and has plans to visit both Tulane and Arkansas shortly. His impressive talent has also attracted offers from several other programs, including Colorado, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, and Mississippi State, among others beyond the Power Four conferences.
Weighing in at 6 feet and 175 pounds, Lewis was honored as the GeauxPreps defensive player of the year for large schools in Louisiana, spanning Classes 5A through 3A. Last season, he recorded an impressive 113 tackles, with 10 of those resulting in tackles for loss, alongside 6 interceptions and 3 fumble recoveries. On the offensive side, he showcased his versatility by rushing for 848 yards and 21 touchdowns on 78 carries, in addition to 3 catches for 86 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Earlier on the same day, Texas Tech also secured a commitment from Dontae Perkins, a 6-foot-5, 295-pound offensive tackle from Spring Westfield. With Lewis' commitment, the Red Raiders now have a total of 13 recruits, including two defensive backs.
