Madison Square Garden Faces Class Action Lawsuit Over Data Breach
Madison Square Garden is now facing a proposed class action lawsuit following allegations that hackers accessed private visitor information from approximately 26 million individuals. This data was reportedly collected through controversial surveillance and facial-recognition technologies implemented at the arena, which is home to the New York Knicks.
Filed on Tuesday in a federal court in New York, the lawsuit targets Madison Square Garden Entertainment. This legal action comes in the wake of claims made by the cybercrime group ShinyHunters, which asserted they had breached the company’s internal networks. The hackers alleged they obtained a wide range of sensitive data, including biometric facial recognition details, background checks, credit scores, and Social Security numbers.
The lawsuit follows a significant victory for the Knicks, who recently secured a win against the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, ultimately clinching the 2025-26 championship.
This incident has raised serious concerns about data security and privacy in venues that utilize advanced surveillance technology.
