Manchester United sign Thompson from Spurs
Manchester United have signed 18-year-old winger Tynan Thompson from Tottenham after agreeing a deal worth £4million, with a further £4m in add-ons.
The winger is highly rated in academy circles and is set to be handed first-team opportunities at Old Trafford, having impressed in North London last season.
Thompson joined Tottenham’s academy when he was 12 and last season scored seven goals in seven games in the UEFA Youth League and was twice an unused substitute in the Champions League.
The deal for the England Under-18 international also includes a 15% sell-on clause and United have told him he will get the chance to force his way into the first-team picture at Old Trafford. The add-ons are understood to be related to Thompson’s first-team achievements at United.
In announcing the signing, a United statement said: “Manchester United have agreed the signing of exciting young winger Tynan Thompson, subject to registration. The England youth international has joined from Tottenham Hotspur.
“The 18-year-old scored 13 goals and contributed six assists last season across Under-18s to Under-21s level, including seven goals in seven UEFA Youth League games. His performances earned him opportunities within Spurs’ first-team matchday squads.
“Everyone at United would like to welcome Tynan to the club and wish him the very best of luck for the future.”
