Maple Leafs Not Pursuing David Carle Amid Social Media Speculation

The Toronto Maple Leafs are not in the process of hiring David Carle as their new head coach, despite swirling rumors on social media. The speculation gained traction after the team parted ways with Craig Berube, who failed to secure a playoff spot in his second season with the franchise. Known for its storied history and intense scrutiny, the Maple Leafs' coaching position is one of the most coveted in the NHL.

David Carle, currently at the helm of the University of Denver hockey program, has emerged as a prominent figure in coaching, leading his team to multiple accolades. Following Berube's dismissal, various names surfaced as potential successors, with Carle's name often mentioned due to his successful tenure in collegiate hockey. TSN's Elliotte Friedman indicated that the Maple Leafs reached out to Carle shortly after Berube's exit.

The rumors intensified when an account impersonating NHL insider Chris Johnston claimed that Carle's appointment as head coach was imminent. Johnston quickly debunked this misinformation, stating, "Beware of fake accounts, folks! There is no smoke to the Leafs/David Carle rumors being circulated right now."

Further reports confirmed that Carle had declined an opportunity to interview for the Maple Leafs' head coaching position, stating that now was not the right time for him. Sources revealed that while Carle and the Leafs had a positive conversation, he chose to remain with the Pioneers, where he has enjoyed considerable success, including three national championships.

At just 36 years old, Carle still has a promising coaching career ahead of him, and while the allure of the NHL is strong, he appears content to continue his work in college hockey for the moment.
