Markieff Morris Predicts OKC Thunder Will Thrive in 2026-27 Season

After the Oklahoma City Thunder faced defeat in the 2026 Western Conference Finals, some analysts have begun to doubt their chances in the upcoming seasons. While many believe the San Antonio Spurs have emerged as the premier team in the Western Conference, the Thunder still face significant opposition.

It’s important to note that Oklahoma City’s playoff run was hindered by injuries to key players. Had their roster been fully healthy, the outcome against the Spurs could have been quite different. Markieff Morris maintains a positive outlook for the Thunder, asserting that they remain a formidable contender.

Despite the rising star of Victor Wembanyama, Morris sees the Thunder as a team that can challenge any adversary. The Thunder, coming off a championship win in 2025, may find extra motivation to bounce back after falling short of a repeat. Led by the talented Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and an adept coach in Mark Daigneault, they are poised to be a tough matchup for any opponent.

On ESPN's First Take, Morris shared his thoughts on the Thunder's prospects for the 2026-27 season. “I have to go with OKC, they were the best team in the league last year. I said this before, sometimes the best team doesn't win, and that was the case this year. They were down their second-best player and third-best scorer, and they still took the Spurs to seven,” he remarked.

While Morris recognizes other potential championship contenders, including the Spurs and the New York Knicks, he firmly believes that a fully healthy Thunder squad would be unbeatable in the league.
