McCutcheon's Matthew Oakley Improves Performance at State Golf Finals
Matthew Oakley, a sophomore from McCutcheon, overcame a tough start at the IHSAA boys golf state finals held at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel. After finishing the first round with an 86, Oakley found himself in 90th place among the competitors.
In a remarkable turnaround, he significantly improved his game in the second round, shooting a 75 which propelled him up the leaderboard and resulted in a tie for 66th overall. By the end of the two-day event, Oakley concluded with a total score of 161, finishing 17 over par.
His participation marks a significant achievement for McCutcheon, as he is the first student from the school to compete in the boys golf state finals since 1993. In the team competition, Westfield claimed the championship with a score of 592, edging out Center Grove by a single stroke. Individual medalist honors went to Hudson Kutchma of Westfield.
