Mets' Jorge Polanco's Rehab Stalled Due to Ankle Discomfort
Jorge Polanco was absent from the Triple-A Syracuse lineup on Saturday after the Mets announced that his rehab assignment had been halted due to ankle discomfort. The infielder will now return to New York for a comprehensive evaluation of his ankle, following a season-long battle with Achilles bursitis.
Earlier in the week, manager Carlos Mendoza had suggested that Polanco "could be in play" for a return as the Mets prepared to face the San Diego Padres in a three-game series. However, before the series opener on Friday, Mendoza indicated that Polanco would remain in the minors, citing the need for more at-bats and defensive practice.
In his time across Double-A and Triple-A, Polanco played six games, recording two hits in twelve at-bats, including a home run and five walks. Although there were signs of improvement, the recent setback leaves his prospects for rejoining the Mets uncertain.
