Missouri women’s basketball adds Arizona transfer, possibly completing roster
Missouri women’s basketball went back into the transfer portal Friday, and this move may have put the finishing touches on the Tigers’ 2026-27 team.
Arizona transfer guard Tanyuel Welch announced Friday night via her Instagram account that she committed to Mizzou out of the transfer portal, taking the Tigers’ transfer portal haul to three players this offseason.
Also on Friday, Harper posted to X that Mizzou had earned a “commitment to complete our roster.”
The Tigers currently have 13 players signed up for next year’s squad, after the addition of Welch.
Missouri has five returners, five high school recruits and three transfer portal commitments. If Harper wants to make any more additions this offseason, she has the room to add two more players and remain below the NCAA’s 15-player roster limit.
Welch joins Michigan shooting guard McKenzie Mathurin and Indiana transfer point guard Nevaeh Caffey as additions to the team out of the transfer portal this offseason. That means all three of the Tigers’ newcomers have high-major experience.
Last season, Welch averaged 8.7 points and a team-high 5.2 rebounds per game for Arizona. The 5-foot-10 Indianapolis native moved into a starting role toward the beginning of Big 12 play and played 26.2 minutes per game.
Welch also averaged 1.2 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.5 turnovers per game for the Wildcats.
Before arriving at Arizona, Welch spent three seasons at Memphis.
In her redshirt sophomore year with Memphis, after returning from a knee injury that cost her the full 2023-24 campaign, she averaged 10.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists while spending time at both guard spots. She also shot 45.3% from 3-point range on more than two attempts per game that year.
