MM 5.12: Alyssa Thomas records near triple-double in Phoenix Mercury’s defeat
Alyssa Thomas has been a triple-double machine across her 41 games with the Phoenix Mercury. The former Maryland women’s basketball forward set a new single-season WNBA record with eight triple-doubles in 2025.
While the Mercury suffered a 16-point loss on Sunday, Thomas was one rebound shy of her first triple-double of the season. She posted a game-high 19 points, 11 assists and nine boards, contributing to 46 of the team’s 79 points.
That performance came just 24 hours after Thomas’ 20-point, nine-assist outing led the Mercury to a comfortable 99-66 win.
Just two games into the season, Thomas is the league’s leader in assists and is top-20 in points and rebounds. Even without a triple-double to her name this year, Thomas appears poised to break her own record.
