Nagelsmann Draws Parallels Between Curaçao Match and DFB-Pokal Opener

Julian Nagelsmann spoke to the press ahead of Germany's first match in the World Cup against Curaçao, emphasizing the challenges posed by facing a less-favored opponent. Germany, the 2014 World Cup champions, has faced early exits in the group stage during the last two tournaments. In his debut tournament as head coach, Nagelsmann led the team to the quarter-finals of the Euros.

"Sunday’s game is a bit like the first round of the DFB Pokal," Nagelsmann remarked, highlighting the unpredictability of competing against a team with nothing to lose. He acknowledged the threat posed by Curaçao, who are guided by the experienced Dick Advocaat. "He will certainly have a plan," Nagelsmann stated, emphasizing the importance of securing three points in their opening match. "We want to play a good game, but the win is the most important for the confidence."

During the press conference, Nagelsmann also shared insights into the team's morale, confirming that key players Manuel Neuer, Nathaniel Brown, and Jamal Musiala will be in the starting lineup. "The guys trained well and gave everything despite the heat. The atmosphere is very good. I'm very confident for tomorrow. I'm looking forward to getting started,” he added.
