NASCAR Cup Series Faces Competition, Sees Viewership Decline at Pocono

The NASCAR Cup Series race at Pocono Raceway, aired on Prime Sports, attracted 1.66 million viewers, as reported by Nielsen's Big Data + Panel measurement. The event commenced at 1:20 p.m., two hours earlier than usual due to potential rain, resulting in an 11 percent decrease in viewership compared to the previous year, with both years measured similarly. Peak viewership occurred between 4:00 and 4:15 p.m., reaching 2.30 million viewers, a 6 percent increase from the peak quarter in 2025.

The post-race program, NASCAR Live from Victory Lane, garnered an average of 1.03 million viewers, marking a significant 29 percent increase from last year. These figures demonstrate why NASCAR and its broadcasting partners remain hesitant to revert to earlier start times for races.

On the other hand, the NASCAR O'Reilly Series, which aired on The CW Network, saw 1.11 million viewers on Saturday, up 28 percent from the same weekend last year when the race took place in Mexico City. However, this figure was slightly lower than the 1.12 million viewers for the Pocono race on June 21, 2025. The 2026 race peaked at 1.341 million viewers during the 6:45-7:00 p.m. ET slot and has now achieved over one million viewers for 17 consecutive races on The CW.

Additional insights from a press release by NASCAR on Prime indicate that the first four races have averaged 2.29 million viewers, a 5 percent increase from the same period last year on Prime Video. Notably, viewership among those aged 55 and older has risen by 11 percent, while the median age of viewers tuning in on Prime is 57.9, over five years younger than those watching NASCAR Cup Series races on traditional channels this season.
