Natasza Dudek's state final victory voted Buffalo Wild Wings Girls Moment
Update, July 16: Natasza Dudek's record-setting state final victory voted the Detroit Free Press Buffalo Wild Wings Girls Sports Moment of the Year.
It's time to vote for the Detroit Free Press Buffalo Wild Wings Girls High School Moment of the Season.
This week we'll take a look at some of the best moments from the 2025-26 Michigan high school girls' sports season.
Voting will close at 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 16.
Here are the nominees:
Natasza Dudek sets new record at Cross Country state finals
The sophomore from Ann Arbor Pioneer broke the girls' course record at the Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn by nearly 20 seconds. Dudek finished the 5k race with a time of 16:09.5, breaking former Pioneer runner Rachel Forsyth's time of 16:28.5 two years earlier. She won the Gatorade National Girls Cross Country Player of the Year at the end of the season.
Kayla Nwabueze leads Bloomfield Hills to state finals
Nwabueze, a Harvard commit and a Miss Volleyball finalist, dominated on the court and took Bloomfield Hills to its first Division 1 state championship appearance, but the team fell in a 3-1 loss to Farmington Hills Mercy in the final game. Nwabueze, who won the Gatorade Michigan Volleyball Player of the Year, accumulated 751 kills, 358 digs, 56 aces, 48 assists and 43 blocks with a .491 kill percentage and a .372 hitting percentage.
Goodrich completes perfect season
Goodrich's perfect season peaked after defeating Tecumseh in the Division 2 state finals at the Breslin Center in East Lansing and went undefeated (29-0). It's the first team since Pittsford in 2016-17 to go undefeated and win a state title.
Senior guard Kayla Hairston led the Martians with 21 points and went 4-of-5 from the 3-point line.
The Martians are the first team in MHSAA history to win 29 games in a season due to the organization's game limits.
Romeo girls wrestling wins first team title
Romeo's girls wrestling team captured the program's first-ever MHSAA state championship. After a slow start in the tournament, the team found its stride and won with 80 points, defeating Oxford by a margin of 1.5 points.
Walled Lake Northern wins school's first title
The Walled Lake Northern softball team defeated Grand Haven, 2-1, in the Division 1 state finals to win the school's first team championship in any sport. Shaela Byrnes, a junior second baseman for the team, hit the game-winning home run in sixth inning. She went 1-for-3 at the plate and batted in one run.
This week's nomination includes reporting from Jared Ramsey, Natalie Davies and Brandom Folsom.
