NHL Unveils Exciting New All-Star Format for 2027 Featuring National Teams
The NHL has announced a significant change to its All-Star Game format for 2027, introducing a competition that includes teams from Sweden, Finland, Canada, and the United States, alongside a "World" team representing players from other nations. This revamped event is set to take place on February 6, 2027, at UBS Arena in New York, the home venue of the New York Islanders.
The new format will feature a three-on-three round-robin tournament, creating an engaging and dynamic experience for fans. Originally, UBS Arena was slated to host the All-Star festivities this year, but those plans were scrapped when the NHL opted to pause the season to allow players to participate in the Winter Olympics in Milan.
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman emphasized the entertainment factor of the new format, stating, "There was never anything wrong with the All-Star format we've been using for the last few years. We think what we've laid out is going to be fun and entertaining and that's really what it's all about."
The "World" team will feature talented players from various countries not included in the other national teams, highlighting a diverse array of skills on the ice, including some Russian athletes. This follows the previous all-star tournament, the NHL Four Nations Face-Off, held in 2025, which was marked by an intense start, including multiple fights during a match between the USA and Canada.
