Odell Beckham Returns to Giants, Expresses Gratitude for Second Chance
Odell Beckham Jr. is officially back with the New York Giants, the team that drafted him in the first round eight years ago. After spending five seasons with the Giants, Beckham was traded to the Cleveland Browns during the 2019 offseason, a move he insists was not one he desired. Now, after stints with three other teams, he finds himself returning to the franchise that launched his NFL career.
Describing his return as "a pretty surreal feeling," Beckham expressed his relief and joy at rejoining the Giants. "Just the way that I had to walk away, it was just unsettling in my soul, in my spirit," he reflected, as reported by Paul Schwartz of the New York Post. He emphasized that leaving the Giants did not align with his identity, stating, "I’ve never surrendered or quit or felt like I’ve given up on myself."
Beckham conveyed his appreciation to Giants co-owner John Mara and the organization for providing him with a fresh start. The wide receiver has not played in the NFL since December 8, 2024, when he was with the Dolphins, and he sat out the entire 2025 season, appearing in only 23 games over the last four years. "This family brought me in; they gave me my first opportunity," Beckham said. "Something I'll forever be grateful for. So many amazing memories. My life was here."
At 33 years old, Beckham faces the reality that this could be one of his final chances to make an impact in the league. He has not made a Pro Bowl since 2016 and has not surpassed 1,000 receiving yards since 2019. However, he is not viewing this as a last hurrah. "I look at it like this: God has given me one more opportunity to play," he stated. "Whatever I do with that is that." Beckham is focused on making the most of his return to the Giants, expressing his commitment to the team and its fans. "This is my squad. It's just going to come with everyday work, being the best me I can be," he concluded.
