Ohio State Football Welcomes Four Top Transfers as Program Evolves
Ohio State football is making significant moves in the transfer portal under head coach Ryan Day. After experiencing notable player departures, the Buckeyes have brought in 17 new athletes, signaling a shift in strategy as they aim to enhance their roster's experience and talent.
Among the new additions, four players have been highlighted by Sam Khan Jr. of The Athletic as part of the top 100 transfers available this year. This marks a noteworthy year for Ohio State, which is seeking to replace key positions while integrating these seasoned players into the lineup.
Starting with No. 86, linebacker Christian Alliegro joins from Wisconsin. Khan describes him as "an experienced, productive, versatile linebacker" who excels at diagnosing plays and has a strong presence in the backfield. Alliegro's quick adaptation this spring makes him a strong candidate for substantial playing time this fall, especially after Ohio State lost two first-round draft picks.
At No. 69, safety Terry Moore transfers from Duke. After a standout season in 2024, where he tallied impressive stats before suffering an ACL injury, Moore is now back to practicing without restrictions. His experience and skill set position him well for a significant role in Ohio State's secondary.
Defensive tackle James Smith, ranked No. 60 and coming from Alabama, is noted for his ability to disrupt both the run and passing games. His versatility and previous high school accolades suggest he could become a crucial player for the Buckeyes' defensive line rotation.
Finally, No. 24 Earl Little Jr., a safety from Florida State, has already garnered praise for his instincts and physicality on the field. Having led his former team in tackles and interceptions, Little is anticipated to play a vital role in Ohio State's defense as they adjust to the loss of several key players.
As the Buckeyes prepare for the upcoming season, these transfers are expected to bring not only skill but also depth to a team undergoing significant changes.
