Ongoing Negotiations Over World Cup Bonuses Between DFB and German Players

The German Football Federation (DFB) continues to engage in talks with the national team players regarding bonuses for the upcoming World Cup. Defender Jonathan Tah provided an optimistic update during a press conference on Thursday, stating, "Yes, we're close, it's looking good." Tah, along with team captain Joshua Kimmich, is representing the players in these discussions with the DFB.

With Germany set to kick off the World Cup against Curaçao this Sunday, the absence of finalized terms related to prize money is somewhat atypical for the tournament. DFB president Bernd Neuendorf emphasized the importance of private negotiations, stating, "We're having constructive discussions with the team council. But we're not conducting the negotiations in public," during an interview with dpa back in May.

The DFB has established a precedent for bonuses, with the highest payout recorded at €300,000 ($493,540) per player for the victorious 2014 World Cup squad. In their most recent performance, players received €100,000 each after reaching the quarter-finals of Euro 2024, with a potential payout of €400,000 for winning the European Championship.
