Orioles Struggle as Rutschman Faces Injury Concerns

The Baltimore Orioles faced their fourth consecutive defeat on Tuesday night, narrowly losing 6-5 to the Seattle Mariners in extra innings at Camden Yards. A late-game two-run homer from Coby Mayo in the ninth inning temporarily tied the score, but Randy Arozarena responded with a two-run blast off Rico Garcia in the 10th, sealing another tough loss for Baltimore. This marks the team's first four-game losing streak since early May.

Adley Rutschman, who has been absent from the lineup for the past two games, was initially thought to be receiving routine rest. However, after the game, manager Craig Albernaz disclosed that Rutschman is experiencing "some left hamstring tightness." Albernaz emphasized the team's cautious approach regarding Rutschman's situation, stating, "Yeah, day to day. It's one of those things where, reassessing, he went through the workout today. So we just want to make sure that we stay on top of that."

The injury revelation surprised fans, as there had been no prior indication of a problem. Rutschman had played in 11 consecutive games before his absence, making his sudden downtime seem unusual. His lack of presence continued into Wednesday's game, leaving supporters curious about the timeline for his recovery.

Meanwhile, young catcher Samuel Basallo has also faced challenges, experiencing a wrist issue that has limited his playing time. Albernaz provided an update on Basallo, stating, "Sammy’s had great work days the past couple of days, and today as well, and he’ll be available off the bench today as well. Just doing what’s best for Sammy. Long season."

Rutschman has been a crucial part of the Orioles' lineup this season, boasting a .267 batting average and an .832 OPS, a significant improvement from his performance last year. Albernaz previously praised Rutschman and Basallo as the best catching duo in the league, making Rutschman's absence even more impactful as the team struggles to stay competitive. Following the latest loss, the Orioles' record stands at 31-37, while the Mariners have surged to 36-32, solidifying their lead in the AL West.
