OVC Track: Portsmouth finishes fifth in boys, sixth in girls

The Portsmouth Trojans’ track programs competed in the Ohio Valley Conference Meet Tuesday evening, with the Portsmouth boys program scoring 52 points to finish in a tie for fifth place and the Portsmouth girls scoring 42 points to finish sixth at South Point High School on Tuesday.

Kylee Dixon and Kamaria Henderson proved to be the big point-scorers throughout the day for Portsmouth.

Dixon scored the best finish of any individual female for the Lady Trojans with her second place finish in the 400 meter dash, running a 1:06.35. Dixon also added in a fourth place in the 100 meter dash (13.49), a fifth place effort in the shot put (28 feet, six inches) and a sixth in the 200 meter dash (27.93)

Henderson finished third in the 100 meter hurdles (18.63) and sixth in both the 100 meter dash (14.12) and long jump (14 feet, eight-and-a-quarter inches). Henderson also garnered one point with her eighth place in the 300 meter hurdles (1:01.47).

On the boys side, Portsmouth’s Casen Myers won the OVC High Jump Championship by clearing six feet even, while JJ Purcell finished second in both the 1,600 and 3,200 meter runs with times of 4:25.65 and 9:55.27, respectively. JJ Henderson posted a 42.10 in the 300 meter hurdles for his own second place, while Reid Click clicked off a 1:55.43 in the 800 meter run to finish as the runner-up in that event.

Myers’ fifth-place in the 110 meter hurdles (17.93) and an eighth-place from Brody Monrraga in the 3200 meter run (11:42.05) rounded out the main efforts from Portsmouth.
