PFL Seeks New Broadcasting Partners Amid Frustration with ESPN

SIOUX FALLS, SD - The Professional Fighters League (PFL) is actively pursuing new broadcasting partnerships as its current deal with ESPN approaches expiration at the end of the year. Despite delivering thrilling events marked by exciting matchups and impressive knockouts, viewer engagement has dwindled, largely due to ESPN's inadequate promotion and accessibility issues.

Since entering into a partnership with ESPN in 2019, PFL has struggled to gain visibility. Many fans have reported difficulty in locating events, with much of the programming hidden behind a complicated and costly app. PFL CEO John Martin expressed concerns to Sports Business Journal about ESPN's lack of support, stating, "They’re not doing anything to help promote and make it easy for our viewers and fans to find us." He highlighted the numerous complaints he's received from fans unable to find information about events.

With the exclusive negotiating period now over and no agreement reached, PFL is exploring options with potential partners such as Netflix and Fox. While Martin acknowledged the possibility of remaining with ESPN, he emphasized the urgent need for a broadcaster that is committed to promoting the league effectively. "I was hoping the PFL was going to become more important to ESPN, and we haven’t seen that," he lamented regarding the lack of marketing and scheduling support.

As PFL continues to showcase some of the best fights in its history, the organization is determined to find a platform that will actively promote its talent and events to fans. With Martin’s extensive media experience, there is optimism that a more suitable partnership can be established to elevate the promotion’s visibility.
