Ravens' Defense Shines as Young Talents Make Their Mark in Final OTAs
BALTIMORE, MD - The Baltimore Ravens are currently wrapping up their Organized Team Activities (OTAs), with mandatory minicamp on the horizon next week. Highlights from Tuesday's practice reveal promising developments on the defensive side of the ball.
As the Ravens bolstered their pass rush this offseason with veterans Trey Hendrickson and Calais Campbell, the spotlight is now on young players Mike Green and Zion Young. Both second-round selections showcased their potential during Tuesday's session, taking full advantage of the opportunities created by more experienced teammates. Green displayed impressive quickness on the edge, executing a well-timed cross-chop to penetrate the backfield. Despite Lamar Jackson's ability to evade pressure, Green's relentless energy led to a collaborative pressure with C.J. Okoye.
Meanwhile, Young, selected 45th overall in the recent draft, demonstrated why he was regarded with a first-round grade. He effectively bull-rushed Roger Rosengarten early in the practice and skillfully batted down a pass at the line of scrimmage. While power rushes are his forte, Young is also working on diversifying his techniques, evidenced by his successful inside counters that pressured both Emery Jones and Gerald Lichtenhan.
The young defensive linemen received valuable experience, as veterans were largely absent. Players like Aaron Graves, David Olajiga, Dion Wilson, and Aeneas Peebles took advantage of the extra reps, making notable contributions in the backfield.
With defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver back on staff, the Ravens' defensive line is poised for improvement. Weaver previously guided the development of players like Nnamdi Madubuike and Travis Jones, and similar growth from Green, Young, and their peers could prove crucial for the team's success in both the short and long term.
