The Boston Red Sox made a bold move to trade for Willson Contreras this offseason, and the move has paid off.

Contreras has been an impact bat for Boston, and on Tuesday, the MLB announced he’s been the AL Player of the Week for the previous week.

Last week, Contreras went 11-for-24 for a .458 batting average, with two home runs and eight RBIs, as he’s been a major bright spot for Boston’s offense. It’s the first time he’s been named the Player of the Week since he was named it in August 2017 while he was with the Chicago Cubs. 

Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte was named the NL Player of the Week.

Boston acquired Contreras from the Cardinals in exchange for Hunter Dobbins and minor league prospects Yhoiker Fajardo and Blake Aita. With the Red Sox, he’s hitting .281 with 11 home runs and 33 RBIs this season.

Contreras is in the fourth year of his five-year, $87.5 million deal with the Red Sox. Boston also has a club option in 2028 for $20 million.

As for the Red Sox, Boston will return to the field on Tuesday at home at Fenway Park against the Atlanta Braves after being swept by the Minnesota Twins over the weekend.
