The Boston Red Sox are getting ready for the regular season, and Carlos Narváez is a very important member of their team.

On Tuesday, the Red Sox are scheduled to play an exhibition game against Team Puerto Rico ahead of the World Baseball Classic. Narváez was scratched from the lineup late, and he provided an update to The Boston Globe's Tim Healey.

"Why Carlos Narvaez was scratched: He had a back spasm yesterday, he said, so he is out of the lineup today to rest," wrote Healey on X. "He said he plans to catch tomorrow against the Yankees."

The Red Sox seem to have caught a break with Narváez. Losing him for an extended period of time would have been a major blow. He was initially listed as Tuesday's designated hitter, but will now take the day off and be behind the plate against the Yankees. He came into camp healthy after undergoing a left knee meniscectomy early in the offseason.

He is 5-for-10 at the plate this spring and figures to be the primary catcher this season. He played in 118 games last season and slashed .241/.306/.419. If he can improve a little and potentially hit 20 home runs, it would be huge for the Red Sox's offense. After losing Alex Bregman, the Red Sox will be looking for anyone to step up and help replace him.
