Reflecting on Trojans Tight End Alex Holmes as USC Football Season Approaches

As the anticipation builds for the start of the 2026 football season, USC is set to open its campaign on August 29 against San Jose State at the Coliseum. In our countdown to kickoff, we’re shining a spotlight on memorable Trojans players, and today’s focus is on former tight end Alex Holmes.

Holmes, who played under coach Pete Carroll from 2000 to 2004, was an integral part of USC's powerhouse teams during the early 2000s. In his senior year, he made significant contributions, recording 24 receptions for 244 yards, which played a key role in securing the Trojans' second consecutive national title.

Beyond his on-field accomplishments, Holmes was instrumental in recruiting top talent to USC, helping to bring in stars like Matt Leinart, Reggie Bush, LenDale White, and Dwayne Jarrett, as highlighted in a 2023 article in The Athletic.

After his collegiate career, Holmes went undrafted but signed with the Miami Dolphins in 2005. He participated in eight games for the team, managing to catch one pass for two yards. Notably, his younger brother, Khaled Holmes, also made his mark at USC as an offensive lineman from 2008 to 2012.
