Rockies Rally Past Cubs with Strong Performances from Castro and Rumfield

CHICAGO (AP) — The Colorado Rockies secured a 5-2 victory against the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday, evening the series thanks to a solid showing from Willi Castro and TJ Rumfield. Castro drove in two runs while Rumfield contributed with a two-run homer, showcasing their offensive prowess.

Castro has been on a tear, going 7 for 13 at the plate in his last three games, which includes two home runs, three walks, and a remarkable nine RBIs. On the mound, Ryan Feltner pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out seven, helping the Rockies (28-46) to their second win in six outings. The Rockies' bullpen was impressive, with four relievers combining to keep the Cubs scoreless for the last seven innings. Blas Castaño (1-0) earned the win, while Jaden Hill notched his first career save after closing out the ninth inning.

Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong, who made headlines by hitting for the cycle the previous day, kicked off the game with a home run, marking his second consecutive game with a long ball. Crow-Armstrong is currently on a remarkable streak, reaching base in 20 straight games and securing hits in 19 of them. The Cubs (38-36) added another run in the second inning as Matt Shaw came home on a wild pitch following a ground-rule double by Miguel Amaya.

In the third inning, Castro doubled to bring Jake McCarthy home, and Rumfield followed with a powerful 385-foot home run to right center, lifting the Rockies to a 3-2 lead. Cubs starter Edward Cabrera (4-4) struggled, giving up five runs on three hits before exiting with a right hand cramp in the fifth inning. Ryan Rolison came in and allowed both inherited runners to score, one via a wild pitch and the other on a fielder's choice by Castro.

Offensively, the Cubs have struggled recently, batting just 3 for 39 (.077) over their last three games and a mere 12 for 83 (.145) in their last 11 attempts with runners in scoring position. On Tuesday, they went 0 for 8 in such situations, leaving nine runners stranded on base.

The series concludes on Wednesday, featuring Rockies left-hander Sean Sullivan (0-0, 0.00 ERA) facing off against Cubs right-hander Javier Assad (4-1, 3.99).
